About the Artist

I come from a family in which psychology and art are blended. My experience as a clinical psychologist and my background as an artist inspired me to explore in more depth those areas where art and academia, theory and practice converge. For me, that meant further study, leading to additional graduate degrees in art history, art therapy and a Masters degree in fine arts. I have exhibited widely in the US, Brazil and Europe and my art is represented by galleries in Minneapolis, Denver, Scottsdale and São Paulo (Brazil) . My works have been featured in multiple art publications in the US and Europe, as well as TV art shows such as PBS TV Mn Original.

The connections between art and psychology are the central subject of my art. I usually create series of artworks in which I explore multiple subjects relates to these connections. Over the past years, I have worked in multiple techniques in painting such as oil, resin and encaustic, and have create wearable art jewelry collections that are an extension of my artworks.

Drawing upon my training as a psychologist and academic, I incorporate into my work a variety of theoretical ideas, thus infusing it with another range of textures, beyond the pictorial. Freudian concepts, ideas from the Gestalt, form the Phenomenology and from Jungian psychology are particularly important to my work. This range serves to broaden my work, giving it a more fluid, open-ended character that invites the viewer to dig into my layers of colors and appreciate my pieces in their unique way. For me art is a type of embodiment in which experience creates matter that creates experience. As a psychologist I am interested in the relationship between the viewer and the act of seeing. As an artist, I am interested in continuous feedback between matter and sensation. Images, for me, are a psychological experience of pleasure, culturally determined and socially legitimated.
